TRUE STORY, NOW I KNOW WHY THE RICH GET RICH AND THE POOR GET POOR.

NOW I KNOW WHY THE RICH GET RICH AND THE POOR GET POOR

Yesterday, I witnessed something that opened my eyes once again to the difference between the rich mindset and the poor mindset. It happened in a certain WhatsApp group where I belong.

A man made a comment that shook me. He said, “How can they employ a disabled person while able-bodied men are weak for jobs?” In his thinking, someone like me—paralysed from the neck down after a spinal cord C4/C5 injury—should not be considered for opportunities when those who are physically strong are still looking for work.

I could not keep quiet. I responded to him immediately: “My brother, you need to change your mindset. I made my first million on my sickbed, paralysed from the neck down, yet you, with all your strength, are still waiting for employment.”

That comment caught the attention of everyone in the group. They began to ask me how I did it. And for a good one hour, I taught them. I shared secrets that took me years of pain, trial, failure, and eventually breakthrough to discover. I poured out my heart because I truly wanted to help.

At the end of the session, I wrote them a message:

“Thank you so much for being part of my training today.

I have shared with you everything I know that can help you rise above limitations and make your first million. Now, it is your turn to take action.”

I also gave them an opportunity for deeper mentorship—a coaching package where I could guide them step by step. But instead of gratitude, what I received were insults. Some mocked me. Some called me greedy. Others said, “Why should we pay for knowledge?”

That day, I knew for sure why the rich get richer and the poor remain poorer. It is not about money in the pocket; it is about the mindset in the heart.

A True-Life Story: My Sickbed Became My School of Wealth

Let me tell you something very personal. Many years ago, I had a car accident that left me paralysed from the neck down. The doctors said it was a spinal cord injury—C4/C5 level. In plain words, I could not move. I was bedridden.

In the eyes of many, that was the end of my life. Some pitied me. Some wrote me off. Even close friends whispered, “How can a man like this ever achieve anything again?”

But in my heart, I refused to die before my time. I remembered the words of Scripture:

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7, KJV).

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13, KJV).

So, from my sickbed, I began to train my mind. If my body could no longer move freely, then my mind would have to carry me to places my feet could not reach. I learnt online businesses, ghostwriting, publishing, and investments—all from my bed. And step by step, I made my first million without standing up from that bed.

The African adage says, “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot harm you.” My body was down, but I refused to let my mind bow down. That was the secret.

The Coaching Offer That Sparked Insults

Because of my journey, I love to teach others how to rise above their limitations. After the group session, I presented an opportunity. I said:

✅ 10 days of one-on-one coaching with me.

✅ My audiobook How I Made a Million on My Bed.

✅ Step-by-step guidance to write and publish your first book online without spending a kobo.

✅ Direct connection to platforms where you can sell your first 100 copies and earn up to half a million naira.

✅ Access to a housing scheme where you pay ₦65,000 monthly for 10 months to own one plot of land.

✅ Introduction to an investment app where you can make at least $20 per week.

The cost? ₦20,000. But I reduced it for the first 10 people to only ₦10,000.

And to make it safe, I added: “I will not collect a kobo from you directly. You will pay only to the President’s account or whomever he designates. Payment will only be made after I deliver everything I promised you.”

That was my crime. For daring to put value on my knowledge, I was insulted.

But let me ask you, dear reader: What wrong did I do?

Why the Rich Get Richer

Here is the truth many people do not want to hear: the rich get richer because they value knowledge, while the poor remain poor because they despise it.

The Bible says:

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7, KJV).

“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23, KJV).

Do you see? The Scripture itself says wisdom must be bought. Truth must be invested in. Knowledge has a price. But many people want everything free.

The African elders say, “The man who refuses to pay the price of learning will pay a bigger price of ignorance.”

Rich people understand this. They pay for seminars. They buy books. They attend workshops. They invest in mentors. And because of that, they keep rising.

Poor people, on the other hand, insult those who try to teach them. They say, “Why should I pay?” They want free fish every day, but they refuse to pay to learn how to fish. And because of that, their poverty continues.

My Reflection After the Insults

When I laid down that night, I thought about what happened. I said to myself: “Now I truly understand why the rich get rich and the poor get poorer.”

The rich see knowledge as an investment. The poor see knowledge as an expense.

The rich honour mentors. The poor insult them.

The rich ask, “How can I?” The poor ask, “Why me?”

And then I remembered another Scripture:

“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” (Matthew 7:6, KJV).

That was exactly what happened. I gave pearls, but they trampled them.

Lessons for You

If you are reading this, I want you to learn from both my pain and my victory.

Value Knowledge

Pay for wisdom. Buy books. Attend training. Invest in mentorship. It will save you years of trial and error.

Change Your Mindset

Poverty is not first in the pocket; it is in the mind. As long as you think small, you will live small.

Stop Insulting Help

Never insult someone who is offering to teach you. Even if you cannot afford it, show respect. Honour opens doors. Dishonour closes them.

Take Action

All the knowledge in the world is useless if you do not act on it. Faith without works is dead (James 2:17, KJV).

See Beyond Disability

If a man paralysed from neck down can make millions on his sickbed, then you, with your two legs and two hands, have no excuse.

African Wisdom on Wealth and Mindset

Let me leave you with some adages that shaped my thinking:

“He who learns but does not act is like a man who ploughs but does not sow.”

“If the child washes his hands clean, he can eat with elders.” (Igbo proverb).

“The lizard that jumped from the high iroko tree said it will praise itself if no one else does.”

“Knowledge is like a garden; if it is not cultivated, it cannot be harvested.”

My Final Word

I shared my story not to boast, but to challenge you. If I, paralysed from the neck down, could rewrite my destiny through knowledge, then you, with your strength and health, can do even more.

Do not despise wisdom. Do not insult those who try to teach you. Do not think everything must be free. Remember this:

“The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.” (Ecclesiastes 10:15, KJV).

The poor remain poor, not because there are no opportunities, but because they refuse to learn the way to the city. The rich get richer, not because they are lucky, but because they keep walking in the path of wisdom.

So, my people, I ask again: What was my crime? Was it wrong to ask people to invest in themselves? Was it wrong to put value on knowledge that can change their lives?

I leave the answer with you. But as for me, I will keep teaching. I will keep mentoring. I will keep raising men and women who will refuse to die poor.

And may God give you the wisdom to be among them.
